NZ Orchids of Bealey Spur - Near Arthur's Pass
Bealey Spur is a well known walking track from the Waimakariri River up the long and interesting ridge to the Bealey Hut. A great day walk uphill on the way in and fortunately downhill home.
Parking at the carpark just off State Highway 73 at the Bealey Township, (mostly small holiday baches) follow the road up hill about a kilometer to the start of the track at the end of the road.
Timing is interesting we took 3.5 hours to the hut but the sing says 2.5 hours. I supposed we stopped along the way for lunch and photos and taking in the great views.
This field trip took place on 18 December 2013.
This page is about the NZ native orchids we found along the way.
Check out the page on Red Mistletoe which we found as well.
Below are photos of all that we found. Click on the image for larger version.
