Parahebe ‘Baby Blue’
Parahebe ‘Baby Blue’ is a very attractive small sub shrub and great for the garden. Its violet blue flowers are showy over a long period of time during the spring, summer and late summer. Maybe in warmer areas it flowers all year round.
It likes cooler moister soil but will grow well in full sun with ample soil moisture. It is not as drought resistant as other species.
It grows up to 40cm high and its long dark green leaves are always attractive. It produces numerous flowers on long racemes with the lower flowers opening first. The petals are a medium violet colour with a pale yellow eye. Surrounding the eye is a red/purple ocular ring with radiating veins to the edge of the petals in the same colour.
It is easily pruned during the summer to keep its shape or even right down to the ground to regenerate new fresh foliage and flowers.
Little is known of its origins.
