Seed Sowing
In trays under cover
Commercial seed raising mix is available but it can also be made at home.
Place in a seed tray which has good drainage out the bottom
Firm it down lightly to make an even surface
Cover with a thin layer of the mix or with coarse sand.
Water well to ensure all the soil is damp. This can be done by placing the tray in a shallow 'bath' for a period.
Place in a warm spot and cover with glass.
Turn the glass daily to reduce condensation or leave a gap to allow the seed and seedling and soil to breath
When plants have germinated remove the glass
When they have grown and the first true leaf is visible they can be transplanted into small pots or a try.
Water and keep in similar conditions for a few days then take them out side to a sheltered place and then to a place where conditions are similar to their final place in the garden.
Don't let them dry out.
When study plant out in their permanent location and water well.
