Weigela florida ‘Variegata’
The nicest Weigela available due to its ability to produce masses of light pink flowers on long branches with a backdrop of light green and pale yellow variegated leaves. It’s a striking plant whether in flower of leaf.
Flowering in late spring early summer the flowers are a light rose pink colour with a deeper pink throat in its long funnel.
Its deciduous leaves are up to 100mm long and 30mm wide at their midpoint with a strong vein pattern on the underside. The variegation is nicely patterned on the leaf with the outside edge being a pale yellow free form pattern.
Growing to a height of about 2.5m if left alone it grows well in most garden soils and has no pest or disease problems.
Pruning immediately after flowering to shorten back the longer stems and thin out about one third of the older stems growing from the base to encourage new growth and great flowering.
For more information see the article on Weigelas.
