In spring the thin stems protrude from the soil carrying small lance shape leaves of a dull green colour topped with the flower. Petals are white aging to pink about 2-4 cm long and reflexed.
The petals are rippled which is one of its defining characteristics. Sepals are almost the same size. The stamen have quite prominent yellow anthers.
It naturally grows in the USA in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Arkansas and Missouri.
