Two bushes, even two varieties give better pollination and better yeilds
They are deciduous so loose leaves in winter
Flowers are white erica type flowers
High bush varieties are best for NZ but rabbit eye low bushes also grow quite well.
- Sunny position with reasonable shelter from strong winds
- Plant about 1.5 m apart if "Highbush" varieties
- An acid free draining soil is essential. Add compost and mulch to to keep roots cool and moist
- Spring to Autumn use Blueberry blend or Citrus blend.
- Winter light dressing of Blood and Bone
- Later winter early spring use a general fertiliser.
- DO NOT apply lime
- Remove broken, weak and diseased wood
- Pick only blue black fruit
- Fruit ripens unevenly so selective picking is required.
- Repeat picking continues through the fruiting season.
- Keep the ground moist by watering and mulch
