Sollya heterophylla Blue Bell Creeper.
Sollya heterophylla Blue Bell Creeper.
A shrubby Australian scrambling shrub, creeper or climber depending upon where it is growing.
Its lovely blue bell shaped flowers appear in late spring and continue to show through to autumn ensuring a great display throughout summer. The flowers appear at the end of a slender stem arising from a leaf axil. Each stem can have between 4 and 12 individual flowers. After flowering a blue/purple fleshy seed capsule appears in autumn.
It is easy to grow in most gardens with the trick being to find a location where the pendulous flowers can be seen to advantage. It is great to cover an old stump, hanging down a bank or climbing a support structure to enable the flowers to be seen. It can also be used as a ground cover.
In Australia it naturally occurs in woodland and forests in Western Australia.
