Mount Hutt, Mid Canterbury, New Zealand
2 December 2017.
It had been raining for a few days but the weather forecast was for light cloud, warm winds and temperatures of about 19C for the day. After a long 46 day period without rain we knew all the plants would be covered in fine dust so a few days of rain would be welcome for the plants and also to wash off the dust ready for some nice photography.
Our trip in early summer was to explore the easy parts of the mountain and discover and photograph many of NZ's alpine flora. Also to explore and get to know different places for followup trips in the future.
No boring details about where we walked suffice to say that we started at the ski tows and did not attempt to get to the top of the mountain.
What did we find?
Below are of images of some of the more unusual plants we found.
