19 Battalion Memorial at Victoria Park Christchurch
Victoria park is a large hillside park on the city side of Banks Peninsula with easy access from the City. Heading from the City to Governors bay it is on the left hand side of the road.
The park is a very hot dry area in the summer and there have been many attempts to plant appropriate plants and trees here to stabilise the soil and establish a canopy cover. Recent planting of NZ native plants sourced in the area has proved successful.
there are significant exotic specimen trees planted in various locations which makes it interesting.
The 19 Battalion Memorial can be found beside the Victoria Park road near the Ranger station. AS small car park and stone wall and signage have been constructed on the road side. A short walk, 80 metres, up the valley leads to the Memorial.
