Leptinella dendyi
Leptinella dendyi Dendy’s scree button daisy
Photographed on Mt Hutt January 2019. Not the best images.
Another attractive scree daisy which is similar to Leptinella atrata ssp atrata and L. a. ssp leuteola in leaf and growth habit and all three preferring mountain scree fields.
L. dendyi has a larger flatter flower head which is variably coloured yellow, orange or brown. The flower heads are born on much stouter stems than the other species. The flower heads start unopened as a dark marron colour and the outer florets open the colour turns to the yellow, orange or brown colours from the outside in providing a two tone effect.
Its rooting stems are also buried deeper into the scree than the other sp.
It is found on the dryer mountains of the Eastern South Island from Nelson, Marlborough and North Canterbury.
